Bones 2: a skull

skull comp

Actually the next photo in the bone book was an entire skeleton, but I don’t feel up to tackling that yet.  So, on to the skull.  I don’t think my right and left hand versions look that different, although I felt like I noticed different details drawing with my left hand.

I also did one where I didn’t lift the pencil.

…and I was a bit impatient when not looking at the paper.  I’ll definitely try that again.

Wow, beautiful!! A skull or skeleton would be v difficult. I’m amazed at how good they look with both hands! Are you ambidextrous, even a little?

Not at all, but my long ago art teachers would tell us that it’s a good exercise in seeing to draw with your non-dominant hand, so I’ve been doing it on and off (when I’ve been actually drawing, so not continuously), for many years. I think I’ve improved even in the few months I’ve been drawing this go-round.

Very lovely! I’m going to have to try drawing with my left hand – it’s an interesting idea.

Skeleton skulls are pretty useful to know about. I’m trying to transition from drawing heads a ovals, and imaging the jaw of a skull if helpful. Nice work.

These turned out great, I’ve never tried drawing a skull (I have a sheep’s skull around here somewhere) but these have inspired me to give it a try. I think your contour and blind contours are very impressive too!

I’d love to see a drawing of a sheep’s skull. If I can ever get it together to get to the Natural History Museum, I’m sure there are skulls there to draw too (dinosaurs at the very least…)

That is neat that you alternated hands while drawing!
