Take Down the Flag-Now

Here are the words of those who birthed the Confederate flag:

“Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition.  This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth…”

Tweet of the day: “The confederate flag is the south’ sway of reminding us we used to own your ancestors and we still hate you.”#TakeItDown #NikkiHaley

Yes, take it down. Put it in a museum and date it 1861-2015. We would still be a country with racism and hate but maybe it would be a first step to a different United States. I hope I see this happening in my lifetime. It is time.

So true. We have to start somewhere, and symbols are so important as a representation of what we believe.

Symbols represent powerful things. Usually opposite in emotion and sentiment. But what also needs to be addressed is mental health. Hate is something one learns. Without doubt a person who hates that deeply must also suffer from some sort of behavioral problems. People heard hateful remarks and decided not to believe the threats and very obvious decrees of a mentally ill human being.
The question still remains: why is hatred and prejudice still alive and well? The answer: We nee more education, education, education at all levels. Where does it begin? At home. May the victims rest in peace and may their deaths not have been in vain.
