Subdural Hematoma

My husband has nine volumes of Frank Netter’s medical illustrations. I started today looking at the Nervous System; how this guy did these drawings is beyond my comprehension. Anyhow this was one of the simpler illustrations.
And here is his incredible drawing:

I envy you, Nina. That would be a set of books I would be interested in owning. I think Netter was naturally curious. Plus, he had access to a cadaver lab. Was he a physician? It seems to me he was. Now I want to read a biography on him. Or write one.I like your drawing. Really good work with that eyelid and nose.

Yes he was an M.D. My husband says a lot of the work was done with a microscope. I think I’ll try to tackle one every day (famous last words). Thanks Kirk, as always.

Oh. That’s ambitious. You’re gonna learn stuff!

Kerfe here: There’s evidently a biography written by his daughter…I would be interested in reading it too. I didn’t know his name, but I recognize his illustrations. Of course you could research and write your own take on his life!

I found an old article in the Atlantic on him, I’ve yet to read it, but it looks interesting: http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/09/frank-netter-md-the-michelangelo-of-medicine/279701/

Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out.

I need to see if my library, or the local university’s library, has Netter’s books so I can take a closer look! That’s a difficult angle/perspective to approach from; great job on tackling it!

To be honest it was the easiest one. I couldn’t get in the exam room to get the ear model; tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated.

Me too. I intend to explore it further in all its gory detail.

Nina, I do hope you keep up with this series. And of course I see textiles and stitching inspired by these drawings too. What’s next?

Dr. Wilson must be very proud.

Medical illustrations have always been fascinating and with such a long history. Nicely done.

I said I would stop but my husband just gave me a volume of DaVinci’s anatomy…so…thanks!
