Mitchell Thread #7
There is
method in my madness.
There are
ways and means.
Sequence.
There is observation, preparation, approach.
There are patterns, recipes, schemes.
There is
ceremony.
There are
paths.
Order.
There is structure, arrangement, organization.
There are combinations, distributions, designs.
There is
inheritance.
There are maps.
Process.
There are
no systems, no rules, no codes.
There is
no canon.
Method
there is
and madness
there is
and there are
(always)
possibilities.
I had a vision for where I wanted to go after Nina’s last drawing in this series. It definitely involved a window and a mirror. The finished collage isn’t quite what I saw in my mind, but the materials at hand and the day and my state of mind and body are always factors in what results when I begin work. The shadow crept in too.
As to the poem, how could I neglect to take up Jane Dougherty’s challenge to write something using the saying “method in my madness”?

What a beautiful combination of art and words. I’m happy that you posted both work from you and Nina together to get the full impact of your combined art. I like the last stanza in your poem, very much. Have a happy day.

Its very cool! its so interesting how the different collage pieces work together, and how you planned it out.

We don’t know where it’s going either, so it’s a lot of fun.

Beautiful! Kasey Kasum comes to mind. “And the countdown continues.” Really loving the collaborative work and enjoyed the verse too!

I can’t believe we haven’t done more of this before. Fun to bounce ideas off each other.

I think it’d be fun if we all did it. I’ve been trying to do an abstract off of one of Bev Dyer’s pieces since christmas time. So far, not to be, but I’ve not given up! I wanna eventually post it and link back to her inspirational post.

As I remember I did a collage based on one of your paintings. I would like to do more…there’s that problem called time.

Well, now … I love the art, it’s gorgeous and bright and features one of my favorite subjects — trees!!! And I also love the poem — what a perfect, apt description of the creative process. If you don’t mind, I think I shall print it out and make reference to it often. 🙂 Happy Monday (soon)! 🙂

A splendid expression of the paradox in both the creative process, but in life itself: “structure, arrangement, organization….no systems, no rules, no codes.” Chaos begets order. Order begets chaos.

This poem and the images remind me of an old friend of mine, a master quilter and a lovely woman who is creative with her hands. Thankyou.
