#Draw a Bird Day 6/8/16

This is Benny, the umbrella cockatoo I met while at the craft show with Kerfe on Saturday. I drew in his owner, a very nice lady who was wearing a colorful twisty hair ornament which echoed a bird’s crest.
Today is my father’s birthday. He would have been 99 and I wish he was still here to tell his World War 2 stories. Happy Birthday Dad!

Cool bird Nina, and your Dad has a great smile. My dad had lots of WWII stories too. We kids were always fascinated. One of our greatest treasures is a ring he made, using a spoon and a 50 cent piece, on his way to fight on Iwo Jima. Happy Birthday to your Dad!

Thanks Sharon, wish you’d post a picture of the ring. I have a Japanese flag and my Dad’s medals. He did a radio show called “Behind the Dog Tag” with Alan Funt–remember him? Our dads were truly the greatest generation.

I am left wondering who was more impressive, the bird or the owner? Such a fun drawing Nina.

The owner was very cool and explained a lot about the care of a bird like Benny. Apparently he squawks early each morning needing his shower and needs a lot of maintenance! Worth it in my opinion!

I see him (and my Mom and sister) as red-tail hawks that I see soaring above me.
