‘We know their dream; enough
To know they dreamed and are dead;’
–W.B. Yeats
from ‘Easter, 1916’

Bleak landscape,
layered grey on grey–
hard, ashen,
featureless.
This mourning has no ending–
uniforms of dust.

When I first looked at the art, my first thought was intriquing quilt design. The texture of paper adds dimension. I want to touch it. But, after reading your poem and other comments, I can see how a stone or earthen surface can be perceived. I like your whole process here.

The art and poem seem so intertwined here, Kerfe. The poem is powerful: “mourning had no ending,” and I can see what others have said about the gravestone. When I first saw the image, I didn’t think grave stone, but I did think it looked 3-D and like paper placed upon stone.

Looks like the runes you see by riverbanks. Truly conveys the bleakness of grief.

I like how the organic paper gives a feeling of stone. I also like how you limited your color palette. I haven’t done much with gray. Must put it on “this list.” 😊
