I think of the Florida school shooting and how empty those three words sound when compared to the life who stood there just yesterday…

Yes, no words will compensate for the loss of a child.

no words, no action as compensation, the grief is immeasurable. thank you for the words, if a parent of a child gone too soon reads it they will receive much comfort.

Thanks–although I believe no amount of comfort is enough.

We wish we could send the children back alive were we able to, but thoughts and prayers will have to do. The painting seems to display the event well.

Thanks Frank.
I think there is more we can do.

Yes, enough.
I’ve written something similar, but I haven’t posted. I just had to get it out.

It seems there will never be enough dying to spur Congress to action. Thanks Merril.

Chilling. How many more of these mass shootings must we endure before someone understands we can have sane gun control laws. Prayers no; policy yes.

You are right, Lillian, thanks.

Quite so, the bloodstained paper plate and words are not adequate to abate the suffering. You have said it well.

No they are not. Thanks Walter.

The poem is heartbreaking. The painting reflects it.

Punch into the emptiness of such a terrible, terrible tragedy! What to be done?

I do feel like that Petru. How many more need to die before some action is taken?

This post reminds me that even when we feel helpless – when it’s not clear how to effect change – making a response, creating, conversing, sharing, are so important!

Thanks. It’s important for our sanity, but, unfortunately, it’s not going to keep this from happening again and again. Our politicians seem to be immune to facts. So art would definitely not even begin to penetrate their consciences or consciousness.

Agreed – sadly. i keep thinking there’ll be a tipping point …. sigh.

I feel that way too, but it seems that all our government can offer us is the same old platitudes.

A very poignant message in the colours on the plate and in your words – nothing can bring those children back and yet the manufacture, sale and use of deadly weapons continues …

Thanks…totally incomprehensible to me.

Violence, hate, and rage…we’ve endured more than enough of this madness! Where is basic respect for human life? The evil resides in our hearts.

Yes, yes, yes. I am so glad that “thoughts and prayers” have become an epithet. When will we elect people who will stop killing children?

It’s a mystery to me Sarah. Thanks.

Thought and prayers are acts of empathy. That is important but not as important as actions of prevention.

That’s true Mish, but the words don’t seem to have any real meaning to those uttering them (over and over). If they did, action would be taken. They are empty pronouncements with no emotional content.
