Resolving the Equations
Multiply the circumstances–
What rises to the occasion?
What remains, over and over,
expecting to return again?
Look between—what is divided?
Multiply the circumstances.
What is buried? Which measurements
contain dust and ashes, which bones?
Around the patterned interval
tricks appear as what they are not.
Multiply the circumstances–
ghostlines projected in the air.
Symbols transforming the unseen–
abridged, compounded, mythical–
saved by neither fortune nor fate–
(multiply the circumstances)
A quatern for Sue Vincent’s photo prompt, above. This is another repeating form–the same idea, but with its own distinct rhythm.

Very deep and intertwining ideas. I prefer to consider the patterned intervals as our connections to ourselves. 🙂

The repetitions give it a ghostly quality, like the ghost appearing in the same place and doing the same thing over and over again.

Thanks Jane. Yes, it seems ghosts are repetitive too…I wonder why? They never come just once.

No, they get caught in a loop I think.

Depth of poetic splendor and the picture was quiet eerie. Great poem.

I love the repetition and the ghostly imagery. I can imagine some sort of wise woman telling this–mysteries of life and death.

Thanks Merril. I seem to be stuck in these repetitive forms (along with the circles, of course). My life is so scattered, I find that it helps me to focus. All is Mystery at the moment!

Your last stanza emphasizes the weight of circumstantial evidence. (Sorry for the play on words, but you sum it up so well with that stanza.)

Thanks Ken. One of the wonderful aspects of language is the way words can play.

The artwork is stunning – it really does convey a sense of ghostlines projected in the air! I also love all the opposites, and how there’s never a real sense of if they resolve or not. Just like life.
(I did visit the Oracle, by the way! I just haven’t had time to do anything with what she’s given me yet…)

Thanks Shuku, life is filled with unresolvability.
Once you visit the Oracle you will be returning, often…

Yes, you got that right. I find myself drawn, reluctantly as I might be, to visit her again to see what wisdom she might bestow upon me…
