Out of the Clouds (Things in my Tarot Card)
My Ace of Cups overflows,
drifting like flowers
on the sea.
I drink from it
knowing that nothing
is certain.
Will liquid become air?
Will my hands become feathers
that become wings?
To the moon, perhaps–
in parallel, we translate ourselves
as everything changes.
For the NaPoWriMo prompt, a sort-of-a-list of things, in the form of a quadrille about an Ace for dVerse.
I especially love this line:
“Will my hands become feathers
that become wings?”
What a great, different take on the word. Wonderful.

I like the idea we translate ourselves. Because I think that is the kernel of communication, making our individual languages understood.

That’s true Claudia. I seem to have a lot of trouble doing that in speech, but it’s easier with image and written word.

Yes, because there is time to think and to craft it out in the best way, I have the same feeling about communicating at you. This is why I don’t like talking on the phone.

I’ve never liked the phone either.

I like your rhyme…although I see it more as in one door and out the other rather than up and down.

This is an interesting reminder that everything is open to interpretation, from moment to moment, depending on perspective.

It is. I find the tarot to be open-ended in that way. Aces mean change, but I looked at about 30 different pictorial interpretations of the cards and chose what spoke to me.

Thanks Grace. I love looking at all kinds of cards for their designs, so this was a natural fit.

I don’t know anything about Tarot, but I’m guessing that the ace of cups means uncertainty. Flowing like flowers on the sea or lending wings are the kind of uncertainties that are worth risking. As others have said, a lovely dream-like world.

Aces always mean change. It’s definitely more interesting to embrace it than to try to control it.

Much easier to translate ourselves through art, especially as we age.

I cannot tell you just how much I love those lines; the entire piece makes me want to read it again and again. It’s a wonderful list that makes you think.
Here’s my list…a bit more mundane though:
