Draw a Bird Day: Golden Winged Warbler

golden warbler 2s

tiny wanderer–
shrinking woodlands, flash of gold–
following your voice

The golden winged warbler is a tiny (5″) bird that is among the most endangered on a long list of endangered birds.  The population has been reduced by 2/3 in the last 50 years, mostly due to habitat loss in both breeding grounds (the largest population breeds in Michigan) and wintering habitat (in Central and South America–a long migration away).  They are shy, but vocal.

Once again, Draw a Bird Day, the 8th of each month, is serving as a placeholder here at MeMadTwo while Nina takes an extended break.  Come back soon Nina!

In the meantime, you can find me (Kerfe) at https://kblog.blog/.

Such a beautiful winged warbler so well painted, Marta and so sad to know of their almost extinction.

Gorgeous, Kerfe! I love that sense of the “split-second” perch and the feathers shimmering in sunlight.

Nice one! I need to get back into Draw a Bird Day. Are the little white lines the texture of the paper coming through?

Stop and draw, so wise and yet so often we over look the simple things. I bought some oil paints this weekend, I hope to find the time to stop some, and just paint. The drawing is so delicate, like the words, the result is almost feather like, is this pastel?

Hi, I love that you are drawing birds while at the same time bringing attention to habitat loss and endangered bird species. We are losing so many of precious wildlife. I’m a bird lover and I just might attempt a bird drawing.

If MI is their main habitat I will definitely be on the lookout for them. Haven’t seen one yet, but you never know….
