Weekend work 2/22/2021
I’m working on a few of these simultaneously. This one started out as a landscape and finished as one too. These have become instinctual as the painting will tell me what to do next. I’m using the gouache in the way it is intended: not straight out of the tube but mixing a few colors together to get a more unusual shade.
I’ll post the others as I finish but mainly paint on the weekends hence the title. Have a good week; although there are mountains of snow here, spring is coming. Nina
I really enjoy seeing your artwork! Thanks for sharing.

That is true. I didn’t see the flow until it was done. N.

Beautiful, Nina. This one has a First Peoples feel to it to me. A celebration of the land and spirits. As always I love the brilliant colors. As I look at this one, I’m filled with a sense of peace and happiness.

I love it. It reminds me of layers of sedimentary rock. I like geology and I’ve always been interested in rock layers. It occurs to me that your painting process is similar to rock formation. What is existing determines what comes next.

That is exactly right Claudia. And obviously I also love rocks. All this painting is evolving from the rock painting, I think. N.

This is very interesting, Nina. The way you have layered it, it reminds me of the archeological sites in the UK, which start with the Romans at 13 m below the surface and then the Vikings at 9 m below the surface and continue in layers upwards.

I didn’t realize when I was doing it that I was making layers. It came together at the end and when I looked at it I saw the flow. Thank you! N.
