Eagle Owl (draw a bird day)
spread your wings
carry the night in
silent flight
The eagle owl is both one of the largest and longest-lived owls. With wing spans up to 6 feet, it has no natural predators, although it is sometimes mobbed by crows. The leading causes of death– electrocution, hunting, and poisoning–are man-made.
Nesting on cliffs or rocky outcrops, it has a wide distribution throughout Europe and Asia. I love its binomial name–Bubo Bubo.
Eagle owls are solitary, territorial, and nocturnal. They can more often be heard, having a large number of vocalizations, than seen.
For Colleen’s #TankaTuesday, poet’s choice.

A beautiful bird that soars so wonderfully like a giant in the skies. Great information, M.

I love when you have both the black and white renditions and the more detailed paintings. And of course the pictures in words…

I have laid eyes on the local barred owl a time or two, always a treat.

What a breathtaking painting of an eagle owl, Kerfe. The detail is perfect. I’ve not seen an owl in many years. I’ll be on the lookout here in Michigan for sure. Your haiku really lays the groundwork for the painting. You know I love birds. LOL! ❤

Thanks Colleen. I’m always happy when poet’s choice falls in a week with the 8th day, so I can include a bird.

I love your art creations honoring the eagle owl. Happy they stay out of sight of humans. (I didn’t get my bird drawn this month but will try for next month.)

Owls are so beautiful. Well, all birds are. I’m hearing the morning flicker right now. Wish he would show himself.

Flickers are very shy I know. The suet cage brings in all manner of woodpeckers but seldom do I see the flicker.

Love the artwork and the poem. I saw one a couple years ago in Tallahassee. He looked small, so am guessing he was young. Realky interesting.

I love it. Great facts, brief and a good vibe to this, while pointing out serious issues.

Just a haiku with some information. I always like to find out something about the birds I draw.
