Rock Garden

It’s Thursday, so I’ll start with the door. My daughters took me to the NY Botanical Garden for Mother’s Day last Sunday. One week late–it was sold out for actual Mother’s Day. We remembered the Rock Garden from a very cold autumn day when we visited a few years ago and this was the only warmish place.

There were still pockets of flowers to be seen, but the overall impression was very green. We’ve had a lot of rain.

Water is part of the landscape throughout the garden.

And, of course, rocks.

Irises were still blooming.

Every view was inviting.

I have many more photos–flowers, trees, art–but the only door in them was to the Rock Garden. I’ll save those for another post. I did not get any good photos of the many birds, though I tried. Robins everywhere, blue jays, sparrows, mourning doves, red-winged blackbirds, finches, a hawk, even a blue heron. And many bird calls I did not recognize.

And a visit to the Bronx! The farthest I’ve been in 18 months. It felt good.

Wonderful photos of such a lush place! You’re way ahead of us with the Japanese iris and the other iris in bloom. I’m glad you had a chance to get out in nature with your daughters. I love the plants, water, rock theme 🙂

Thanks Jade. We’re lucky to have these gardens close by. There’s one in Brooklyn too, but harder to drive to (my older daughter reserved a zipcar to drive us). Once we feel comfortable with the subway again, we’ll go back there–they have a koi pond and a beautiful Japanese garden.

The gardens look wonderful. I’ll bet you had an even better time without the Mother’s Day crowd and pressure to move along. Thakns for sharing the photos with us.

Thanks Dan. They are still limiting visitors, even in the gardens, so I have a feeling it’s never that crowded. We got the first entrance tickets, and it did get more full later on. Thanks for hosting!

That’s one nice looking place. Very lush! And looks like lots of paths and vistas. I’m glad you got to go. And I agree, probably less crowded and more enjoyable than if you went on the holiday.

So many textures of greenery — and those accents of color make for delightful surprises. We are finally getting rain here, and our local botanical gardens are responding too. Very heart-lifting.
