A Bit of Color: Halloween Doors

skies are grey now, days
shorter, winter closing in–
a bit of color

in a window, orange glow
reaches out, warms with its light

A tanka for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday where Harmony Kent provide this week’s theme of kindness. This window brightens my day every time I pass by.

The spirit of the season is evident everywhere I walk too. I want to particularly mention West 87th Street between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive. Here’s a selection of Halloween doors. Enjoy!

And a tree.

You can join in Thursday doors here.

This looks like so much fun! There is practically nothing here, apart from pumpkins in all manner of shapes and sizes 🎃

Yes it is David. I was telling a friend, I think it’s pent up energy from all the isolation of the past two years. A good way to spread some smiles, which we all need.

These are all wonderful doors, but that window in the second photo is truly amazing. I love the light – perfect for the season. I enjoyed your poem. You did a great job of mixing the two prompts. Well done!

Kerfe, this is brilliant and you share some of the best decorations I’ve seen this season. How creative… I love the pops of orange pumpkins which brightens up the grayness of the day. Your tanka poetry is perfect for the season. Love it! ❤

Holy cow! Some people have gone all out, that’s for sure. Although Halloween isn’t my thing, I thought the first two were really attractive. Lots of good faux spiderwebs throughout!

Can’t help but smile at these! More love here for that glowing window – perfectly seasonal all by itself, and a great backdrop for the decorations.

They go all-out with the decorations, I see. I do love that orange glow coming from the window. And the skeleton dog one is also neat.

Very nice poem, and I love the doors and orange light. I didn’t put out my decorations for the second year in a row. My county is still doing poorly virus-wise and I don’t want to encourage children to go to stranger’s doors.

I think that’s wise. Children here don’t go from house to house. Large buildings have sign-up sheets for those who want trick or treaters, at least they did pre-covid. But in general, children in the part of NYC where I live, dress up and go from store to store, where all the owners give out candy. It works well, and is enjoyed by all.
