May 2022
we mark time
with numbers, naming
circles, lines–
converged
and then divided—each month
we begin again,
ending the
previous parcel
of days in
our minds—when
in fact they overlap—clouds,
sun, showers, flowers
A small shadorma chain for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday theme of beginnings and endings, picked by Yvette M. Calleiro. I meant to do something completely different with the circles of flowers I cut out, and perhaps I’ll explore that idea later. I got distracted with layering them in different ways.
When I was out walking yesterday I discovered a community garden on West 90th Street–full of tulips. I’ll be visiting it again, to see what’s in bloom in the coming months.
This is lovely, Kerfe. Circles, overlapping time. . .your flower circles are beautiful, and so is the community garden.

I love your circles of flowers and your poem, Kerfe! You are right in that we mark time to be disposed of but it truly is fluid. 🙂

BtW, WordPress won’t let me comment on your post, but I enjoyed your poem. We do need to keep perspective in mind.

Thank you for letting me know. I don’t use WordPress. I use Blogger, so it may require you to log in through some other way. 🙂

Blogger only lets me comment about half the time, even when I’m logged into Google. I have never figured out a pattern for it. I know I’ve commented on your posts before, so who knows.

I wish I had an answer, but I just know how to do the basics. Lol! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me here, though. 🙂

These are gorgeous, K. I see they had some veered fringe in the park 🙂 I like the symbolism of the shapes and background. You’re right, humans are so fixated on boxing things up, but we live in overlaps. Thank you for the lovely images, they are so appreciated right now ❤

I feel like I could look at these every day for a long time. I have the sense of rotating dials for new combinations.

I spent a long time playing with arrangements. Like meditation in a way.

You’re so right, Kerfe…. our measurements of time and seasons are so arbitrary, aren’t they?

Your flower circles are so cheery! And the tulip garden looks lovely! I’m curious what you used for your flower circles? Perhaps an old calendar? I liked your poem too.

sometimes i think the invention of clocks – to partition time, to put a price on an hour – is the keystone damnation in this world. So it’s a good reminder, your final lines . And of course your paintings are sublime ~

Thanks M. Now that I’m retired, time has become more and more random. I’m still adjusting to it. We are so programmed it’s hard to slip that mindset off.
