A Foray into Acrylics

It’s been a while since I’ve done any art or blogging. It’s the proverbial shoulder to the grindstone and when you get older the energy is harder to come by.

Tiny landscape on one of the multi size and multi purpose boards Kerfe sent to me. That’s what made me buy some acrylics. Acrylics are very different than gouache: more plastic, slower dry, can smoosh them.

I’ve probably done fifty of these gouaches on black paper. I have a couple in the works. I hope to be more consistent with sitting down at my art table and letting the chi flow. I appreciate WordPress and our friends here and will try to do better by you. Have a good week! Nina

I love what you do with color. Me, could never get the hang of doing color. Yea, I’ll join the chorus – keep painting please. Colors galore & where your mind goes is a treat to follow. Oh, and love your technical artist term – smoosh. Neil

Beautiful and vibrant, Nina. I was really taken by the first one. What a lovely landscape. Glad to see you painting and being creative in general. I look forward to more. ❤

I think we have all ‘been there’. You’ve started again and that’s good enough.

They are so bright and lively! Acrylics is what I’m used to. It is what I started with and haven’t wandered far from it. I love the way it dries and am surprised there is anything that dries faster. Happy you are back in the creative saddle, Nina. Looking to see what creative springs bubble forth from you ❤

Wow these are all incredible. So nice to see your art again and the amazing colors you to bring out off that black paper. I love the layers in “Trapped” and that face!

I like these. And I’ll be interested to see what you think of acrylics, longer term. They are my favorite painting medium (gouache and I could not agree despite a lot of trying on both our parts!) Glad to see you.

Thank you dear Claudia. I’ve always liked gouache since I was introduced to them in the Textile Design curriculum at Fashion Institute of Technology. I like the opacity and the way it mixes. Good to try my hand at another medium, though. Stay well. Husband back to work today and hopefully all Covid stuff behind him. N.

You know, it’s funny, I don’t like gouache for the reason that – it mixes! and I am a layering kind of person, so the quick drying acrylics suits my way of working better. How we each have our preferences and get into cooperation with our materials to make our work, different for each person. I do like the chalky look of gouache, though. And…super glad your husband is back on his feet and resuming his routine, after all this time. Fantastic news.
