Labor Day Weekend 9/2/2022

Paterson Great Falls, an unusual view. I am obviously obsessed with this landmark of my hometown.

My switch from gouache to acrylic is going well. I bought a better set (Liquitex) with a lot of colors. Painting on the canvas board is a revelation after painting on a flimsy-ish black paper for a while.

It looks to be a good weekend here in Northern New Jersey. We need rain, though. Nina

Geographic obsession… guess I’m familiar with that myself. Just of a different place of course. And I don’t paint. While no genuine student of art, your style(s) are interesting. Sort of American primitive, your much enjoyable waterfall, yet the second has more than a small flavor of surrealism. Nice combinations. Neil

These are just super. I love the falls, such a dynamic image. And the second painting is like a dreamscape. I’m glad you got better paints, I love liquitex. I also like Golden and certain colors in the Blick brand. I am a mix and match kind of painter. But I digress, I just meant to say I love what you’re doing.

I feel an excitement working with these. Gouache dries fast; you can’t really mess with it. Acrylic is so tactile. Also I feel your influence as I’m painting.

I am so happy the process feels good with acrylics. I really think that mostly I paint because I like doing it, and part of that is how nice the paint feels going on to the surface or how the colors work out. I am flattered you think of me as an influence, I love your work and I feel the same way about you.

I really like how the water flows in the falls. Also like the colors you chose.

It must be a pleasure to paint on canvas, Nina. I’m glad you’re finding time to enjoy your acrylics and be creative. Have a lovely weekend.

These are both gorgeous, Nina! Good to know you like the Liquitex, and to see how vibrant they are, since I think I want to play with acrylic again and it’s been about 20 years so there are a few more choices out there!
