9/11/2022

remember—(breathe)–
sky clear crisp blue–
time stands still once again–
ghostname voices–
bone rattled leaves–
bottomless sings the wind

I’ve rearranged some of my previous poetry from 9/11 into a Laurette poem for Muri’s scavenger hunt. Images also from past posts.

Beautiful words and images, Kerfe. Both seem to speak to the eternal.

I almost glad it’s muggy and icky today–such a contrast with the beautiful, blue-sky morning of that day.

I’m all for reworking a poem into another form! I participated in a challenge where you had to write a poem and then re-write it into 5 different forms (they were set so you couldn’t choose the form). I think you captured the day – from the peace of the sky to the ghosts and bones rattling in my mind. It is for my generation what Pearl Harbor was to my mother’s generation. I only pray these future generations lack this kind of experience.

I think it’s a good exercise as well. I’ve dabbled in it, especially with old poems, now and again.
My earliest visceral memory (in 6th grade) is the assassination of JFK. But 9/11 is more personal. I live here, my daughter was in high school two blocks away from the WTC. Well, every one in the metropolitan area has their own personal 9/11 stories.
Let’s hope there are no more such in our future…

That’s really cool, I’ve never thought of using pieces of old poems to write a new one. Nice work 🙂
