This is the first painting on paper I’ve done in quite a while. I have been pretty committed to rocks. They’ve made for some nice gifts and to be honest I just love doing them.

If you want to get the perfect rocks, Capcouriers on Etsy’s are great. (Kerfe found them, I’ve reordered several times). Painted in straight black gouache gives a very nice surface. The gouache colors stand out well. Then I spray with a high end gloss spray.

More art on a rock.

Best wishes to all and I apologize for my sporadic posting. I will try harder! Nina

The painting is amazingly intricate. I love all the colors — and the rocks too. The person who lived in this house before me was apparently into painting rocks too. Every now and then I find one left behind. Yours are much prettier though. Hugs.

Nina! I love the rocks – are they weather proof? We have several people in the area who paint and then leave the rocks for others to find!

You know I always love a grid! But the rocks (as usual) are spectacular. (K)

These are always such a treat, Nina, and thanks for sharing the Etsy source! I was wondering where you came by all these perfectly shaped stones… 😂 I definitely want to create some myself; my mom always does creative things with rocks in her potted plants (and garden) and thanks to you I know exactly how to brighten that up!

It’s great to hear that you’ve been enjoying painting on rocks and that you’ve found a good source for them on Etsy. Your tip about using black gouache as a base and then adding color on top is helpful for achieving a nice surface and allowing the colors to stand out. It’s also good to hear that you’ve been making gifts out of your rock paintings. Keep up the good work and don’t worry about sporadic posting – we all have busy times in our lives. Best wishes to you too!
