The Center Shifts (Thursday Doors)

1
Gardens grow secrets,
moonwandering endlessly
between, resting only
long enough to begin again.

2
Life roots wild, dark,
ancient, treespirited.
Seeds grow, reaching
toward the stars.

3
Rivers forested
with wind follow
the path of birdlight
inside time’s eye.

4
The seasons know
always never remains–
spring summer fall winter-
opening, then closing again.

5
After cycles through
the same earthpath
as before—voices echo
back—dancing, winged.

We visited the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx a few weeks ago. They were featuring an Alice in Wonderland theme, as well as plenty of pumpkins. The above structure is in the Rose Garden.

Here’s the cottage by the entrance to the Rose Garden.

We did a lot of walking, passing by this stone mill–I hope to get a closer look on a future visit.

A rabbit for Dan–posing as many of his neighborhood rabbits do. I took lots more photos, but will save them for a future post.

It was a beautiful autumn day, which inspired my poem, a cadralor of 64 words incorporating the words dark and light for Sheila’s W3 prompt. We only have one earth. I wish America had voted to take better care of it.

Someone’s got to stop us now
Save us from us, Gaia

–James Taylor

And you can always find more doors at Thursday Doors, hosted by Dan Antion.

Pray for the forest pray to the tree
Pray for the fish in the deep blue sea
Pray for yourself and for God’s sake
Say one for me

Time, the river and trees. Number three is this, here, now. I hope the cycle will continue, despite everything.

Thanks for introducing the Cadralor form…am working with different forms in the series I’m writing…this one I’ll save for when (if ever) I get to 64! Looks like a great place to walk around in.

Thanks Rajani. It’s a beautiful garden. And we picked he perfect day.

The cadralor is an interesting form. If you Google it you will find the website of the inventors which gives a better idea of its flexibility. The 64 words was from the W3 prompt, not the form.

Glorious sunny weather! The old stone building looks very familiar; I’m sure I’ve seen versions of it here! 😊

Beautiful photos, poetry and thoughts for this time in our lives, Kerfe. Our ability to ignore the earth seems unending. We will likely do more damage before waking up – probably after it’s too late. Thanks for the bunny and the pumpkins.

Thanks Dan. Things are looking dire, but I am still hoping one of these weather disasters will finally turn all the political posturing around towards saving our future.

I’m not sure what it’s going to take, but I think you might be right. The thing that disturbs me the most is the anti-science wave. I’m not sure it’s in line with politics, but most of science is fact, not opinion.

I know. But Americans have always had a suspicion of education, thinking it “elite”. I have no idea where that came from.

I wonder if RFK Jr can ban vaccines. That worries me. He ( with the Republicans’ help) is going to mess up medical care, which is already messed up enough, completely.

I guess all we can do is wait and see. I don’t understand the pushback against science. I was trained in science, and if you don’t agree with something, you work very hard to disprove it. Either way, an opinion is not enough.

I was not trained in science, but I was educated in the basics of it. I don’t think they do that any more. I know science offends some people’s religious beliefs even though many famous scientists have said there’s no conflict between the two, that in fact the wonder of scientific study reinforces faith in a larger power. Also, …where do they think their SUVs came from or their smartphones or even their indoor toilets? It’s all a mystery to me.

I have strong religious beliefs, but I don’t find them conflicting with science at all. I’ve never quite understood that either.

I like your treespirited take on doors this week. Each stanza and photo speaks of a thresh hold, a liminal space. Beautifully done.

I think Earth will go on and adapt, even if we destroy ourselves, which seems increasingly likely.

The botanical garden looks delightful! What a fun outing!

Beautiful poem awash with delightful imagery and well connected ideas (‘moonwandering endlessly’). Well done. I can’t say I am familiar with this poetic form. Thank you for the excellent introduction to the cadralor!

Love all your wonderful photos. The bunny (for Dan) is totally epic shrubbery design! A magic filled place it looks to be. Thank you for his enchanting tour. Look forward to whatever you feel led to share in the way of more photos etc. Great share!
