Born Awake

oracle dot comp

born awake magnetic

all breath remembers
magic
born awake
flying
dazzled open
naked as air

I’ve enjoyed my NaPoWriMo collaboration with the Magnetic Poetry Oracle.  I compiled all my collages, above, dots in many manifestations.  I was worried that everything might begin to look and sound alike.  I have my style and my themes in any circumstances–what do you think?

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but maybe the boat sailing through elaborate music…

I didn’t do all thirty days, but I did more than half.  Not bad.

The NaPoWriMo prompt today is to use a phrase from someone else’s work to spark a poem.  I got the phrase “moon garden” not from a poem but from Michael Chabon’s wonderful book “Moonglow”.  I’ve been wanting to use it somewhere, and here it is (with the help of the Magnetic Oracle).

A tanka for Colleen’s challenge this week.  Her visual reference below.  The Oracle and I went a bit further up and out.

Ella at 100

For Ella

The task of
the basket:  calling
unfinished
collections
together with messages
condensed into song.

The elders
plant wandering seeds,
summoning
the dropped lines
into fertilized pockets,
bringing roots to light.

Cut loose but
not lost.  Walking on
air–a voice–
unclouded,
animated, multiplied,
luminous. Flying.

Today would have been Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday.  I’m pleased to have my drawing and poem included in the anthology celebration “Ella @ 100” .

“The only thing better than singing is more singing.”
–Ella Fitzgerald

Happy Birthday Ella.

Today’s Oracle poem and dot collage are in response to Sue Vincent’s photo prompt this week, “Shore”, below.

Self Portrait #19 (after Klee)

It may or may not still be Selfie Day, but I’ve been trying to get a portrait done for the 23rd of each month for my 100 Self Portrait series.  I’m on to a new artist to imitate, Paul Klee.  This is probably the most abstracted one I’ve done so far–I did my usual mirror pencil sketch and then smoothed it out to imitate Klee’s painting.  I think it still bears a strange resemblance somehow.

And of course I had to ask the Magnetic Oracle for commentary.

Fool (almost me)

I am almost me
listening to colors breathe
secrets laugh
red blue rhythm
born from liquid joy

As these windows open
who will fool
this naked heart?

And I actually managed to do the NaPoWriMo prompt today:  an elevenie poem.

The Oracle was feeling philosophical I guess.  Things do look different depending on context…
