Paterson Paintings

paterson comp

These paintings were done with fabrics found in my parents’ attic. They were made in my grandfather’s mill in Paterson. This was a small factory with twenty looms; broad silks were the main product which were sold directly.

I like how you mix media and techniques in these, and writing on the images. I hoard old fabric from my family, especially hand embroidered things and aprons, lots of aprons. It’s time to do something creative like this instead of storing them.

They look a little like Miriam Schapiro’s work, a little bit. I met her back in the nineties and was a great lecturer, and teacher.
